Development

Two weeks to go for us to collect and present our final design about 'Shoes are Slippery when Rain'. This report seems heavy, because my team, at first consist of 3. But in the end it feels like 2. Cause one of the member stop going to school. Its like hell when we have to do the report by only two people. Envy also and feel unfair. Because the other group consist of 3 or 4 member. But looking at my own group member. Just two person! But day by days, I can adapt with this and start thinking also doing the report.

This is the presentation board that on progress

The clearer presentation board

1. The user can be doing sports or walk. The bangle was wore by the use on their ankle.

2. The sensor on the bangle detect the wet surfaces around the user that walk or run by.

3. The bangle notify the app that was installed on the user's smartphone.

4. The user aware of the notification that there are wet surfaces nearby. As these day people always stick on there smartphone while walk, run, etc.

5. After the user notice that there are a wet surface that have to be slippery and can make the user slip unconsiously. The user can avoid it. And all be happy :)

These are the details of the feature app. its available on iTunes and Android ;)

Week 3 : Ideation and Development of Solution 02

The second ideas of the solution is the Shoes Radar.
What is it ? The actual thing is like a bangle that have the sensor on it. The use of the sensor are for us to know which place that the condition of the surface is wet. The other function is for make the user aware of the slippery surfaces.

How the Shoes Radar works ?
When we through some areas. When the area nearby us are wet or slippery. The sensor immediately detect the slippery surfaces that near us. From that thing. We could know which area that wet already. The Sensor will notify us through our app on our smartphone. As we know, people these day can not apart from gadget. Even we are walking, We keep looking downward to our smartphone. Maybe checking our social media, or texting to our friends. and many more. That's why, the bangle that have sensor will connect through the special app to notify us.

Week 2 : Ideation and Development of Solution 01

When we discuss our topic again, which is Shoes are Slippery when Rain, I realize that this topic has some solution that will solve this problem. Such as like what I already blogged on the previous, I thinking about shoes that have removable soles.

As the sole have different type. There will be different type of soles also. Such as soles that have anti slip, or sole that for doing sport etc.

I was thinking this idea because of we using shoes everyday. Because we use shoes everyday, ofcourse the grip will start flat and it become slippery especially when the surface wet. With this removable sole, I think it will be the best solution if we dont want to buy another new shoes because we already comfort with the old one. But the sole already flat. We can use the removable sole.

How the removable sole works ?
It can be the whole sole, or just the additional grip that will paste on the bottom of the sole.
with the magnet inside the insole. so the additional grip can stick perfectly without harm the original form of the shoes.

Week 1 : How to Analyse Data

Working with our data
The data or information we initially collect is often in a bulky format (spreadsheets of numerical data, transcripts of interviews, or descriptions of artefacts) which need to be summarised, interpreted and analysed before you can draw conclusions.

The best way is to summarise information to identify patterns. Summarising will help us to compare information in a standardised format so that you (or your reader) does not have to sort through a lot of information to make comparisons. For example:
§  When interpreting interview data you can prepare tables listing frequently-raised issues of interviewees under categories such as age or gender.
§  Numerical data can usually be summarised mathematically, as means (averages), medians, modes or frequencies.
Once information is summarised, you will find it easier to identify patterns and interpret meanings. Sometimes this can be a simple descriptive process if patterns or meaning are obvious.

Quantitative information

Numerical or quantitative information is obtained from research methods such as surveys of populations or from repeated experimental procedures. When recording the data it is important to include detailed information (eg dates and place of collection, methods of measurement, units of measurement) to minimise confusion. Numerical data are usually recorded on printed datasheets, then stored in spreadsheet format.
In some cases, data may initially be recorded by handheld computers or specialised data recorders which can later be downloaded to more secure devices. Data recorders can often be set up to record data remotely, without the requirement that researchers be present. Such techniques are frequently used in meteorological research or in situations where it would be too hazardous for a researcher to be present (eg industrial chemistry applications, space research).

Qualitative information

Qualitative (non-numerical) information may be recorded during interviews with human participants, often on video or audiotape, possibly with supporting notes, and may be transcribed into written form later. Other qualitative information describing and interpreting texts or artefacts may also be recorded in written form and stored on index cards or as Word files. This material may be coded for themes using software programs (eg Nvivo) that search for keywords or strings, or it may be done manually. The transcripts may also be treated as texts for analysis.
Visual information may be recorded as photographic plates, slides, computerised files or hand-drawn diagrams.

Week 7 : Study Research

This study research occurred at Indonesia, that I knew form the online news from Indonesia site. Which contain. The sidewalk along the protocol roads in Kudus, Central Java, that is being installed with ceramic become an issue for the residents because it sidewalk become slippery especially when rain. So it will harm the pedestrians.

The ceramics may look beautiful, but actually it cause a lot of issue that make the pedestrians slip over it. There are many case, for example, on March 3rd 2013, there were a resident that slipped while across the sidewalk infront of Hasan Putra Book Store, exactly near the square died because of slipped.

The other case that happen on the same place, another resident slip and fall while across the sidewalk. Because of that incident the joints of the hipbones detached.

The solution from that problem, an action must be done as soon as possible so the similar and so on incident will be not happening to the other pedestrian. The action such as do the repairment on the ceramics so it will be more rough, not slippery. And in the next developtment, it will be using the material that have rough texture on it so it will be not slippery especially when rainy season.

Week 6 : Common vs Unique Research Method

Common Way
It's vital you pick approach research methodologies and methods for your thesis - your research after all is what your whole dissertation will rest on.

First thing that we will do while doing the research method are
- Choosing qualitative or quantitative research methodologies.
- Qualitative Research
- Using quantitative and qualitative research methods together
- Research methods in brief

The common ways, that we usually use such as
-interview.
-questionnaires

The unique way to solve problem are (in my opinion)
-We have to understand what our topics are.
Looking for the same example for the same topics then from that thing we have guide for what we have to do.

Week 5 : Design Ideas

Nowdays, technology become the centre of us. We can’t run from technology,  we are depending on the technology. For example is MRT, Smartphone, Laptop, etc is something that we can’t avoid. So I think that become our culture. Technology becoming our culture now.

Previously, I talk about the problem that we always facing, but there’s still no solution yet. So here I am talking about ideas that suddenly pop out from my mind, and I hopely it can be come true, so there no more slip when rain!

The first design idea is that our shoes that we always wear, it has portable sole, so we can wear then unpin the sole. It depend what the situation in our environment. Maybe the best way if our sole can adapt easily, like a temporary sole that will change automaticaly. For example that we want to go outside, but it’s rain, so the sole will change automatically into anti-slip mode. Or if we want to go playing soccer, the grass will be slippery if we don’t wear the proper shoes right? Maybe it will automatically appear the spikes.

The next design idea is the shoes that have the rocket turbo on it. So there will no slip anymore! Because our shoe will boost to everywhere we want to go. It can be in the air, but also it can be in the ground. When it in the ground, the turbo rocket will get into the shoes so we can use it comfortably. There will no more slip and tired of walking again!

Week 4 : Case Study

In these day, shoes are the important objects that we use everyday. But what becomes the problem is when the quality of our shoes is not good enough, the example like not comfortable, have no more grip, it have the hard sole that will make our foot injure and etc. The things that made serious is when our shoes become slippery, especially when rain. The impact of the result could be fatal, the example could be broken arm, sprain, and when we pratfall it could make our coccyx (tailbone) broke and cause the blindness. The victims can be from different ages, from children to elder. The place that always happen to slip is the place that we always crossed. The bus stop, roads, stairs, etc.

Broken arm that might be the cause of slip injury
Bus Stop. Place that fall accident happen

At the bus stop, people usually in hurry to catch the bus, so they are running, eventhough it was rain. So I think it will be the serious problem when we dont wear the proper shoes, so it can be slipped. Especially for children and elderly. The children usually play around when waiting at the bus top, they running until not realize that it’s not safe cause the wet surface that cause from rain can make them fall. And for the eldery, some of them already don’t have power to balance their own body, so when they slipped, they maybe not possible to equalize their body to the proper position.

Flat shoes sole that can make us slip

We should not belittle this problem, because small problem can become a really big matter. So that’s why, we take this topic. I want to find the solution that make our shoes won’t slip when rain or not, and ofcourse, comfortable to use everyday. Maybe our solution will be make shoes that will have changeable soles, so everyday in every situation we can go outside safely.

Week 2 : Mindmap

This mind map talk about our research about why shoes are always slippery when rain. There are many cause that make our shoes slippery and the effect when our shoes become slippery. Those factors are the material, the cost, brand, type of shoes

When the material of our shoes is not supported it can make our shoes become slippery and can make us slip the fall to the ground. The other factor of why we can slip when rain is the road surface itself. The road become slippery when rain, especially when the surface of the road is flat, the example like tiles, cement, ceramic, wood, etc. The important factor is the shoes itself, If the surface is flat and has no grip it will become slippery.

When the shoes become slippery, and we walk in to the flat road surface, and we suddenly slipped and fall down and there are many effects too. Such as broken arm, swelling, fracture, sprain, etc.

So that's why this thing become our main problem, It's may seem a simple problem, but it can be fatal to us, and can be very useful if we know how to handle it.

Week 1 : Shoes are Always Slippery when Rain

We live in Singapore. Singapore, a small country and city but yet, it’s alive and well organized city. That what make myself want and feel comfort to live in this country. Singapore is a country that the people who live in it, much like use mrt, car, taxi, buses, and walk as a transportation. But the majority of student, especially international student. They are using mrt, buses, and walk as a transportation.  It’s a compulsory to us to walk even it’s sunny or rainy. The problem is, when it’s rainy, and we have to walk. As we know, when the rainy season come to Singapore, the heavy rainy come, and it’s like a waste to use umbrella. Why? Because it’s rain plus windy. So your clothes will wet as soon as we walk by. Also, when rainy, what the big problem like the wet clothes is, when our shoes go slippery when it’s rainy.

When it’s rainy, and when we walk by the street, at some time our shoes become slippery. Why? There are so many reason why it become slippery. When the surface is wet and flat, or our footwear have no more grip on it.

So there are ways to make shoes less slippery :
1.       Scuff the soles on abrasive surfaces
To do this, try walking around on a rough surface like, for instance:
·         Concrete (the rougher, the better)
·         Gravel
·         Rocks, boulders, etc.
·         Textured metal grates, walkways, etc.

2.       Using grip adding products

3.       Use shoes some type of shoes that rubber based
1.  Tevas

2. Jellies

          3. Crocs

4. Rubber shoes

5. Boat shoes
